Get To Know Dr. Emily Chen

Growing up in Texas, Dr. Emily Chen spent many after school afternoons at the local dental office where her mother worked as a Registered Dental Assistant. The compassionate care her mother provided to her patients for over 20 years inspired Dr. Chen to combine her love for art and working with her hands with helping others in the field of dentistry.

Dr. Chen earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA in 2019, where she also received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Minor in Natural Sciences in 2014. 

Dr. Chen is an active member of several professional organizations, including the ADA, CDA, LADS, and the Chinese American Dental Society of Southern California. Dr. Chen has also made contributions to the field of dentistry through her publications in the International Journal of Dentistry and PeerJ. 

When she’s not crafting smiles, you can find Dr. Chen boxing and kicking butt at the gym, trying new restaurants and cooking new foods, traveling or rocking out at a concert. She’s also a devoted animal lover who enjoys spending time with her cat, Oliver, dog, Roxie and is adored by her pup nephew, Gopher.

Dr. Chen provides care in both Mandarin and English.

Roxie

Hi! I’m Roxie – the resident good girl at Kindred Dentistry! So... guess what? I totally hit the forever-home jackpot! I’m 94% Husky, 6% German Shepherd, and 110% floofy lovebug. I was adopted by Dr. Chen after one of her amazing patients (who fosters pups for the South LA Animal Shelter—actual angels) took me in and helped me find my way home. Then Dr. Chen met me, and it was love at first sniff. Now I spend my days at the dental office being the calm, cuddly helper pup. If you’re feeling even a little nervous, don’t worry—I’ve got you. I specialize in tail wags, quiet company, and head-tilts that say, “You’re doing great!” People tell me I make the dentist feel less scary. I just think love makes everything better. When I’m off duty, I love going for runs at the Rose Bowl with my mom and dad, pretending to chase my cat brother Oliver (don’t worry, he knows it’s a game), and hanging out with my cousin Gopher on playdates. Honestly, I’m just really happy to be here—part of the Kindred Dentistry family, making people smile, and living my best floof life. If you see me around, come say hi! I’m the fluffy one by the front desk with a big heart and a happy tail.

Danielle

With over 10 years of experience as a dedicated dental hygienist, Danielle is passionate about helping individuals and families achieve healthy, confident smiles. She takes pride in building lasting relationships with patients and providing compassionate, high-quality oral health care right in the heart of the local community. Known for her gentle approach and friendly demeanor, Danielle believes that education and personalized care are key to long-term dental wellness. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys exploring new foods, sharing meals with loved ones, and making lasting memories with her family. Whether at work or at home, Danielle is always focused on making meaningful connections and bringing smiles to those around her.

Amber

With over 10 years of experience in the dental field, Amber brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to her role as Front Office Manager. She has worked extensively in both Dental Hygiene and Orthodontics, combining her passion for oral health care with a warm, approachable personality. Known for her professionalism and infectious sense of humor, she creates a welcoming environment for every patient who walks through the door. When she’s not at work, you can find her on the spin bike, coaching girls youth volleyball, and—most of all—shopping with her two daughters.

Gopher

Hi there! My name is Gopher, and I'm the unofficial therapy dog at Kindred Dentistry, where my Auntie (the best dentist ever!) helps people brighten their smiles. I'm a golden retriever, so you can probably guess that I'm all about making new friends, getting lots of scratches behind my ears, and, of course, snuggling up with anyone who needs a little extra love. When I'm not at the practice, I'm usually chasing after a ball—seriously, I can’t get enough of those things! But don’t worry, I still find time to cuddle and give kisses, especially if you happen to have some chicken (my favorite!). I love visiting my Auntie at the dental practice because I get to bring smiles to everyone who walks through the door. I can’t wait to meet you and be your buddy while Auntie works on making your smile even more amazing. So, next time you visit Kindred Dentistry, don’t be surprised if I greet you with a wagging tail and a whole lot of love. I’m looking forward to making you my new best friend! The Dogtor is in!

Mom

Jianmei (or “Mom” to everyone at Kindred) brings over 20 years of experience as a dental assistant to our practice. She’s not just skilled and knowledgeable—she’s also the proud mom of Dr. Chen, making her an integral part of our team. Her dedication and care ensure that each patient feels comfortable and well taken care of. Outside the office Jianmei enjoys spending time in her garden, cooking the most amazing Chinese food and traveling the world. We’re fortunate to have her expertise and friendly presence here.

Cesar

Meet our wonderful dental assistant, Cesar! He’s the heart of the office, always finding ways to make your visit enjoyable. He turns x-rays into a breeze, and makes every visit as comfortable as possible, from holding your hand when you’re nervous to explaining every step of your treatment with care. Outside of work, Cesar enjoys alone time hiking the outdoors, spending time with his family and enjoying good food. His passion for his role and genuine care for others truly enrich our practice.
